70 Years with You

This year marks an extraordinary milestone for us at Charcoal Steak house: 7 decades of hospitality, tradition, and unforgettable memories.

Since opening our doors in 1956, we have had the privilege of welcoming generations of guests to celebrate life's most meaningful moments. From first dates and family dinners to weddings, anniversaries, business gatherings, and holiday celebrations, we are honoured to have been part of so many cherished occasions in our community.

Our story began when founders Del and Ortha Wideman purchased a small restaurant known as the Charcoal Pit. With little restaurant experience but an abundance of determination, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit, they built a business founded on quality food, genuine hospitality, and strong relationships.

Those values remain at the heart of everything we do today.

In 1976, we moved to our current location on King Street East, where Charcoal Steakhouse has become a Waterloo Region landmark. Over the years, we have grown and evolved while staying true to our commitment to exceptional food and service.

In 2022, we said goodbye to our founder, Del Wideman. While his passing was a significant loss for the family and organization, his legacy continues to inspire us every day. His vision, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to hospitality helped shape not only Charcoal Steakhouse but also the culture that continues to guide our team nearly seven decades later.

In recent years, we have experienced tremendous growth as a hospitality company. While Charcoal Steak house remains our flagship restaurant, we have expanded the ways we connect with our guests through special feature nights, holiday celebrations, wine dinners, seasonal events, corporate functions, and community gatherings.

We have also significantly expanded our catering services, bringing the Charcoal experience beyond our dining room walls. Whether hosting weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, or community functions, we are proud to help create memorable experiences wherever our guests gather.

As guest expectations have evolved, so have we. Today's diners are more knowledgeable than ever about cuisine, ingredients, food culture, and dietary needs. We continue to embrace these changes while maintaining the classic dishes and traditions that have made Charcoal Steakhouse a favourite destination for generations.

Our success over the past 70 years would not have been possible without the incredible people who have supported us along the way. We are deeply grateful to our loyal guests, dedicated team members, trusted suppliers, and community partners. Many of our employees have spent decades with us, helping to create the welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service that define the Charcoal experience.

As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we reflect with gratitude on our history and excitement for the future. While much has changed since 1956, our purpose remains the same: to bring people together through exceptional food, genuine hospitality, and memorable experiences.
